Rangapravesam

A Dancer Emerges

Rangapravesam, which means “ascending the stage’ in Sanskrit, is a full-length solo dance performance. It marks the transition of the artiste from a student to a blossoming dancer. Accompanied by a live orchestra, this performance demands that the dancer exhibit an understanding of the many aspects of Kuchipudi, from sensitive expressions to intricate rhythm, blending grace and vigor.

Several of Sarada’s students have performed their rangapravesams, full-length solo recitals, after years of training.

Ameya Jammi

Ameya Jammi performed her rangapravesam in November 2006. Ameya has performed in the Richmond area and at venues such as the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh, the Siva-Vishnu Temple, the College of William & Mary, and the Southern Illinois University. Ameya has been undergoing intensive training under Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. N. N. V. Satyabahanu both in India and the United States. She also performed alongside Kuchipudi Kalakshetra’s troupe in 2007. In the summer of 2011, she performed across the United States as the role of Sage Narada for Sri Hari Rama Murthy’s dance drama Mohini Bhasmasura. Ameya is a mentor at Sri Sai Dance Academy and is pursuing her Masters in Kuchipudi at the University of Silicon Andhra.
